Wedding planning checklist: what to do month by month

A good wedding planning checklist makes the road to the big day much calmer. Instead of keeping every task in your head, you split it into small steps. Below you will find what to do from about 12 months before, right up to the morning of the wedding. In addition, we answer common questions at the end.

Wedding planning checklist: 12 to 9 months before

First of all, set your budget and a first guest count. These two numbers shape almost every decision that follows. Next, choose the season of your wedding and start visiting venues.

  • Set the budget and the guest count.
  • Visit two to four venues.
  • Book your venue and date.
  • Choose your best man, maid of honour or koumbaros and tell the family.

For the venue visits, we also have a guide on how to choose a wedding venue.

9 to 6 months before

Once the venue is booked, move on to your key suppliers. Good photographers and musicians fill their Saturdays early. That is why you book them first.

  • Photographer and videographer.
  • Music, with a DJ or a live band.
  • Decoration and flowers.
  • First ideas for the dress and the suit.

6 to 3 months before

At this stage, the wedding takes shape. For example, you hold a menu tasting with the caterer and set the schedule of the day. Also, you send the invitations and start the dress fittings.

  • Menu tasting and wine choice.
  • Invitations and the guest list.
  • Wedding rings and stefana for an Orthodox ceremony.
  • Paperwork for the church.

At Polo Club, for instance, our partner caterers know the estate well and prepare menus tailored to you.

Now you lock in the details. First, you collect the RSVPs and create the seating plan. Moreover, you confirm times and roles with every supplier.

  • Final guest count and seating plan.
  • Schedule of the day for all suppliers.
  • Final fitting for the dress and the suit.
  • Wedding favours and small details.

The last week and the wedding day

In the last week, hand over the final tasks to people you trust. That way, you keep time to rest. In addition, pack a small bag with the essentials for the day.

On the wedding day, let the venue team coordinate everything. At Polo Club, for example, the bride gets ready in the bridal suite. Finally, the chapel of St Sergios is just a few steps from the reception garden.

Wedding planning checklist FAQ

When should I start planning my wedding?

Usually, starting a year ahead gives you room for every step. However, with good planning you can organise a wedding in less time too.

What is the first step?

The first step is the budget and the guest count. Without them, it is hard to compare venues and offers. After that, you book the venue and the date.

Can I see the venue before I start?

Of course. We welcome you at Polo Club in Varympompi, at the foot of Mount Parnitha. Visiting hours are Wednesday to Friday 16:00–21:00 and Saturday to Sunday 12:00–17:00. You can book a visit here.
